National Honors Reflect DSUSD’s Commitment to Learning, Students, Teachers
LA QUINTA — Secondary schools across the Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD) are earning prestigious state and national recognitions for excellence in academics, innovation, and student support, reinforcing the District’s commitment to putting Students First.
These honors highlight the dedication of DSUSD students, educators, and school communities who work each day to create dynamic learning environments where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
La Quinta High School has been named a 2026 California Distinguished School, one of the state’s highest honors recognizing outstanding student achievement and innovative educational programs. The California Distinguished Schools Program celebrates campuses that demonstrate exceptional performance and commitment to preparing students for college, careers, and life.
Palm Desert High School recently welcomed a WASC Accrediting Commission for Schools mid-cycle accreditation visit, highlighting the school’s continued focus on continuous improvement and high-quality educational programs that support student success.
Shadow Hills High School received the 2026 California Department of Education Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award, recognizing the school’s outstanding efforts to expand access to college coursework and create meaningful opportunities for students to earn college credit while still in high school.
In addition, Amistad High School and Summit High School have both been named 2026 California Model Continuation Schools by the California Department of Education. This recognition honors schools that provide innovative programs and dedicated support to help students succeed on alternative pathways to graduation.
Rounding out the list of honors, Colonel Mitchell Paige Middle School has been designated a 2026 California Schools to Watch campus, a national recognition celebrating academic excellence, social equity, and developmental responsiveness in middle schools.
