Spring 2024 ‘A’ Grade for Patient Safety Marks Fifth Consecutive for Hospital

RANCHO MIRAGE — Eisenhower Health has received an ‘A’ in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for Spring 2024. This national distinction recognizes Eisenhower Health’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and errors in the hospital.

“For our patients and their families, this ‘A’ grade signifies that they are receiving care from a facility that prioritizes their safety above all else,” Martin Massiello, President and Chief Executive Officer, Eisenhower Health, said in a prepared statement. “It provides them with peace of mind knowing that they are in capable hands and reinforces their trust in Eisenhower Health.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization with an over 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients.

Both JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio and Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs received a ‘B’.

Leapfrog’s grading system — A, B, C, D, or F — is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. It is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The grades are released twice each year and out of approximately 3,000 hospitals graded, only 29% received an A, underscoring the significance of this recognition for Eisenhower Health.

“Everyone who works at Eisenhower Health should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said in a prepared statement. “It takes complete dedication of at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Eisenhower Health, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
