Enrique (Rick) Saldivar to seek District 4 Seat in Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY —  Enrique (Rick) Saldivar confirmed to Uken Report that he will seek the District 4 seat now held by Mayor Pro Tem Ernesto Gutierrez in the November 2022 City Council election.

In a text message to Uken Report, Gutierrez said, “I have not decided or thought about (running,) It’s too early to make such a decision.”

This will be Saldivar’s second run at a seat on the City Council. He first ran in 2018. He was one of four candidates seeking the District 4 seat, which currently includes Desert Princess Country Club, Outpost and the Dream Homes. He finished fourth place with 294 votes or 13.82% of the votes cast.

District lines will be redrawn for 2022.

“Every government entity that has district elections will have to be redrawn before the 2022 elections,” Chris Parman, communications manager for Cathedral City told Uken Report.  “We are still waiting on the new Census data for cities.”

“Over the past two years I have demonstrated my leadership skills 100% by helping businesses and individuals during the pandemic,” Saldivar said.

During the past two years, Saldivar has been among those front on Saturdays giving away thousands of pounds of food.

On Facebook, Bambee Rodriguez refers to Pastor Rick and his team as “being the hands and feet of Jesus.”

As an associate pastor at Destiny Church, Saldivar oversees 300 volunteers spread across three campuses — Destiny East Indio, Destiny West Cathedral City and Destiny South Bay Torrance.

According to his wife, “Rick grew up in the streets, and looked for fulfillment in all the wrong places. After attending an Easter service in 2007, Rick gave his life to Jesus and began the journey that has made him who he is today. As a pastor on staff, Rick was on the launch team and began the preliminary services at the West Campus.”

Saldivar has also lead the ant-recidivism program at Destiny, helping men and women reintegrate into society and succeed after being incarcerated.

“I have become a bigger part of local law enforcement,” he said.

Saldivar, and his wife Christina have three children: Alan, Adrian and Aaron.
