RANCHO MIRAGE – Are you still looking for that perfect gift but don’t know what to give? You could give someone the precious gift of life and it won’t cost a thing other than a bit of your time.

LifeStream, which provides life-saving blood products and services to more than 80 Southern California hospitals, is holding two community blood drives in Rancho Mirage.

As a non-profit organization, LifeStream relies upon the generosity of more than 500 volunteer blood donors daily to give the gift of blood products.

The first drive will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 at the Rancho Mirage Public Library, 71-100 Highway 111.

The second community blood drive will be on Friday, Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Albertsons at 40101 Monterey Ave. in Rancho Mirage.

You give your gift to LifeStream at either of the two community blood drives and it will in turn make a financial contribution toward Southern California fire recovery efforts for each donor who gives the code “MCWF” at registration. Donors receive a Fandango two-ticket movie voucher (maximum $17 value) and are automatically eligible for a drawing for a chance to win a $500 gift card.

Donors also receive free cholesterol screening and Gift of Life Donor Loyalty points that may be redeemed in the online donor store at www.LStream.org.

Healthy individuals at least 15 years of age may donate blood. Everyone under 17 years of age must provide LifeStream with written parental consent.  Parent consent forms are available at any donor center, community blood drive or at www.LStream.org.

All prospective donors should be free of infections or illness, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not be at risk for AIDS or hepatitis.  Donors receive a free mini-physical as part of the donation process. Donating blood takes about an hour, yet gives someone the gift of a lifetime.
