INDIO  – The largest city in the Coachella Valley has tapped one of the most valuable — and high profile — pieces of real estate in the Valley to show support for its three high schools and the Class of 2020.

The City has debuted congratulatory slides on the I-10 Auto Mall Jumbotron,  thanking the seniors from Amistad, Indio and Shadow Hills High Schools.

“Amistad may be a small school, but the Amistad Class of 2020 appreciates this gesture from our community BIG TIME!” David Gustafson, Ed.D., Amistad High School Principal, said in a prepared statement.

“On behalf of us all at SHHS, thank you for the recognition of our Class of 2020. It is greatly appreciated!” Shadow Hills High School Principal Gabriel Fajardo said in a prepared statement.

The I-10 Jumbotron screen is 36 feet wide and more than 27 feet tall and is seen by thousands of passing motorists daily.

“What better way to let these seniors know they are not forgotten, than to put up a message for all to see?” said Indio Mayor Glenn Miller.

Through an agreement with Lamar advertising, the City also has access to a large billboard, and a surprise awaits Indio’s high school seniors this week at the location on Indio Boulevard and Burr Street.  The billboard measures 10 ½ feet by 36 feet.

The city of Indio owns the Auto-Mall Jumbotron, and can use it for promotional purposes related to the city.

Amistad High School expects to have 95 graduates; Indio High School will have 402; Shadow Hills High School expects to have 463.

Regardless of which school they attend in the Coachella Valley, Indio thanks its Valley’s educators and students, and applauds them for their efforts during this challenging time, especially all those who are graduating in 2020, according to a city-issued news release.
