COACHELLA – Facial masks and hand sanitizer are two of essential tools to help fight COVID-19, which led this city on Friday to recognize La Botica Healthmart Pharmacy for its “extraordinary” and “generous” efforts fighting the spread of COVID-19.

The local pharmacy is currently offering essential employees free masks and hand sanitizer at several locations throughout the city.

“In times of trouble, we all need to come together to help one another,” Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez said. “We commend La Botica Healthmart for demonstrating the spirit of Coachella and going above and beyond to give back to our community.”

The eastern Coachella Valley remains a hotspot for coronavirus, with more than 350 confirmed cases in Coachella. The city also has an emergency order in place requiring the use of face masks in public to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The complementary masks, gloves and hand sanitizers are available at the following locations:

The free face supplies are available while supplies last. The pharmacy can be reached by phone at (760) 296-3468.

The free supplies come at a time when, according to the latest data available, the number of coronavirus cases is on the rise. As of June 12 data, there were 2,702 new confirmed cases Thursday. The total number of deaths is 4,943, an increase of 62 from Wednesday.

California now has 141,983 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in 4,943 deaths. The number of COVID-related deaths increased by 1.3 percent from Wednesday’s total of 4,881.

California’s hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased by 45 from Wednesday.
