Public Encouraged to Sign Building Beam at Indio Campus Expansion Site

PALM DESERT – Community members and students are encouraged to add their signatures to one of the beams which will be displayed on the Indio Campus in the new expansion as part of College of the Desert’s Indio campus. A unique and personal touch commemorating the project and ways for the community to leave a mark on such an important project.

A Beam Signing Ceremony will take place at the Indio campus, 45524 Oasis St., today, Tuesday, Oct. 18. College of the Desert and City of Indio officials will speak from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The beam will be available for signing between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

“Bond funding approved by voters was instrumental in getting this project built, so it’s fitting that the public should be part of it,” said Superintendent/President Martha Garcia, Ed.D. “The Indio Campus Expansion will be an incredibly valuable asset to the College, our students and community.”

The three-story building will accommodate an additional 5,000 students. The existing instructional facility on campus is also slated for a remodel and infrastructure upgrades and will be joined to the new building via a pavilion. The new building is expected to be operational in Spring 2024.

The project budget is $73.8 million for the campus expansion and upgrades and will be covered in part by funding from Measure CC (2016).
