Palm Springs International Airport announces busiest year in history with nearly 3 million travelers in 2022

PALM SPRINGS – Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) has been on a record-setting streak, and 2022 brought new annual records for passengers, flights, and seats to the Coachella Valley airport, making it the busiest year in history.

Soaring at the top of the industry and consistently exceeding pre-pandemic numbers over the last
year, PSP has set a new annual record with nearly 3 million passengers traveling through its doors in 2022. The Total Passenger Count for the year came in at 2,981,844, shattering the previous 2019 record by 16.3% when 2,535,955 passengers utilized PSP. Throughout 2022 the airport set ten new monthly passenger records, welcomed new airlines, and launched new service to several cities.

“Last year our airport experienced industry-enviable growth, and I want to thank everyone at PSP
for their efforts to provide the best experience possible,” Harry Barrett, executive director of aviation, said in a prepared statement. “We look forward to welcoming new shops and restaurants this year, more passenger experience improvements, and we will continue to work toward adding more year-round air service for our community.”

The airport also set two additional records for the most commercial flights and available seats in a
year. A total of 16,254 commercial flights were scheduled at PSP throughout 2022, an increase of 14.2% over the previous record set in 2019. And the number of available scheduled seats increased by 22.8% to a record high of 3,622,934.

“We are thrilled with Palm Springs International Airport’s continued growth and record-breaking
success in 2022,” Scott White, President & CEO of Visit Greater Palm Springs. “This growth has
allowed us to welcome new and returning visitors to Greater Palm Springs while also providing residents with access to more destinations than ever before. Our long-term goal is to advocate for the airport’s ability to add nonstop flights for European travelers.”

Airport Officials expect to continue setting records in 2023. The first quarter of this year is forecasted to have nearly 14% more flights than Q1 2022 and 21.8% more seats, and more than 1.2
million passengers are expected to pass through the airport during this time.
