RivCo Supervisors Speak Out Following Allegations of Sex Abuse Against César Chávez

RIVERSIDE — Riverside County Supervisors wasted no time in addressing shocking sex abuse claims against farm labor leader César Chávez.

The explosive sex abuse allegations against farm labor Cesar Chavez caused an avalanche of actions and reactions this week as some murals of him were quickly covered and Chávez Day celebrations were canceled.

Chavez is accused of sexually assaulting two underage girls and fellow labor leader Dolores Huerta in the 1960s-70s, according to a New York Times investigation.

Chavez rose to national prominence in the mid-1960s as a force for better pay and working conditions for agricultural laborers across Central and Southern California.
