WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democratic Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz says he is keeping an eye on activity in Iran especially as it fired multiple missiles into Iraq on Tuesday evening, targeting U.S. military sites in possible retaliation for the recent American drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani.

“I am closely monitoring the unfolding ballistic missile attacks on U.S. facilities from Iran,” Ruiz said in a prepared statement. “I am very concerned for the Americans in harm’s way and praying for their safety. It is incredibly upsetting to see how this is escalating and urge that cooler heads prevail.”

Locally, some residents are expressing their fears of a World War III and place the blame squarely on President Donald J. Trump. Still, others are heralding his decisive action. Former Indio Mayor Michael Wilson, a Trump supporter, is one of them.

“The fact that Trump put blame squarely on Obama’s $150 billion and $1.7 billion cash that infused Iran’s war, terrorism, and nuclear abilities is right on the money,” Wilson told Uken Report. “The Democrats hold accountability for American deaths in the Middle East, period. Democrats just can’t ever bring themselves to credit success to Trump, even if it’s good for America. One can say Democrats’ hatred for Trump is  stronger than their love of America and wishing it well in every circumstance. In every instance Trump is draining the swamp and removing Democrats’ ultimate goal, a U. S. under total Democrat control.”

Wilson added, “Iran’s response was a total capitulation to Trump and the U. S. They notified the U. S. before they shot their missiles. It was simply a face-saving shot.”

A Pentagon spokesman estimated that there were more than a dozen ballistic missiles launched from Iran beginning at about 5:30 p.m. EST. A defense official told ABC News that 10 of the missiles hit Al Asad, one struck Irbil in northern Iraq and four “failed in flight.”

Late Tuesday, President Donald Trump tweeted, “All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good! We have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world, by far! I will be making a statement tomorrow morning.”

According to ABC News, the recent developments were expected to spark global fear of a U.S. war in the Middle East. Iranian leaders had vowed revenge for the death of Soleimani, who the U.S. has blamed for the recent death of an American military contractor as well as being behind roadside bombs assessed to have killed 600 American troops in Iraq.
