Eighth Annual Sammy’s International Meatball Festival to be held Oct. 4

CATHEDRAL CITY — Now in its eighth year, Sammy’s International Meatball Festival is set for Oct.4 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City’s (BGCCCity) annual fundraiser has been converted to an online “virtual event.”

Due to COVID-19, Sammy’s cannot host the traditional head-to-head meatball judging, so it has organized a peer-to-peer fundraising event where individual participants campaign for ‘votes’ as donations to BGCCCity from their family, friends, and associates (1 vote for each $1 raised). The virtual fundraiser will culminate on Oct. 4th, in a one-hour event filled with live action, inspiring testimonials, videos about our Virtual Club Experience, and videos of participants preparing their mouth-watering entries. It promises to be both a fun and inspiring event.

Voting for your favorite contestant started Sunday Sept. 20th right here.

The online event will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4th, by clicking here.

Admission is free

“We have such an amazing lineup of participants so please go to their videos and view all of them; there’s really some spectacular stuff out there,” Scott Robinson CEO of The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, said in a prepared statement. “Many have worked hard to make this event enjoyable for you; so please vote for your favorite contestant or contestants. I ask that you help me help the children today by donating and creating a safety net of a loving, nurturing, and supportive environment for today’s kids to learn and grow. Please support all of our wonderful work together and give from your heart.”

Sam Pace, owner of Sammy’s Wine & Dine and founder of Sammy’s International Meatball Festival, said, “It’s been a tough year for everybody and our Club has also taken a hit. And who suffers? The kids. We need your money and we want you to donate as much as you can to help the kids. The Festival is a whole new concept this year. It’s going to be fun; it’s going to be interesting, and hopefully we can raise a little money to help out our kids. We thank you for all your support, for your love, your understanding, and your generosity. In Italian, we say, ‘Salud Chindon,’ which means good luck for a hundred years. We want that good luck to extend to our Boys and Girls Club. Great kids, we’ve made some wonderful citizens out of these kids and I tell ya they’re worth every cent that we can send in, so Thank You!”

Proceeds will benefit the Club’s mission: To inspire and enable all young people, especially from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City is a youth-serving organization that provides opportunities for a Great Future through a safe place, with caring mentors, and life-enhancing programs. All donations support on-going Club programs and services that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship. The Boys and Girls Club gives hope to an entire city and this fund raiser will help these positive experiences to continue.

BGCCCity, as with many businesses, is not open to in-house services because the current pandemic precautions. That has not stopped the Club from launching a Virtual Club Experience serving our Club members with self-directed virtual activities.

Opened in 1980, later this year the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City will celebrate 40 years of service to the community.
