Presented by the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation, the second annual summit is a free event designed to engage with and inform residents about the air-quality, water-quality, land-use, and harmful waste issues that are affecting public health. It begins on Sept. 11 with a full day of panel discussions featuring environmental advocates, health experts, community leaders and partners, and stakeholders covering topics that include renewable energy and green technology, restoring the Salton Sea and lithium extraction, navigating the future of water, and more.
The keynote address will be delivered on day one by Andrea Vidaurre, co-founder of The People’s Collective for Environmental Justice. It is expected to be a summit highlight. Ms. Vidaurre has been recognized for her work calling for legislation that reduces automobile and rail emissions in California, with the 2024 Goldman Environmental Prize and TIME Magazine’s honor as one of its most influential people in 2025.
