During the traffic advisory, CVWD asks drivers to use caution in the area and thanks drivers for their patience

PALM LDESERT — A traffic advisory takes effect on Monday Nov. 8, when a contractor for Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will begin work in the City of Palm Desert that is part of an ongoing project to expand the Non-Potable Water (NPW) distribution pipeline system.

The project is part of CVWD’s commitment to long-term groundwater sustainability.

As the project is constructed in Palm Desert, the contractor will work westbound along Hovley Lane East with plans to reach CVWD’s largest water reclamation plant on Cook Street in early March 2022. During this time there will be periodic lane closures. Closures will be marked and at least one lane in each direction will be open at all times.

The work to install the pipeline from Bermuda Dunes Country Club to East of Washington Street began in August and has been completed. The contractor is preparing to perform the final pave and pressure test for the newly installed pipeline.

The project will connect four more golf course to the NPW pipeline for irrigation: the Bermuda Dunes Country Club, the Oasis Country Club, the Palm Desert Resort Country Club and the Woodhaven Country Club. This will allow the courses to reduce their reliance on groundwater for turf irrigation by using NPW that includes canal water and recycled water, help prevent overdraft of the aquifer and increase the ability to CVWD to balance the supply of water with demand.

CVWD asks drivers to use caution in the area and thanks drivers for their patience during this important work.

Coachella Valley Water District is a public agency governed by a five-member board of treatment and reclamation services, regional storm water protection, groundwater management and water conservation. It serves approximately 108,000 residential and business customers across 1,000 square miles, located primarily in Riverside County, but also in portions of Imperial and San Diego counties.
