Tristin’s Bill Passes Assembly Floor with Strong Bipartisan Support

SACRAMENTO — AB 1145, also known as Tristin’s Bill, which directs the state to conduct a comprehensive safety study of California’s Highway 74, analyzing accident data and roadway conditions from the past 10 years, passed the Assembly Floor with bipartisan support, marking a major step forward in improving highway safety:

“I am thankful to my colleagues in the Assembly for passing this commonsense study that will save lives in the community I call home,” Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez, R-Indio, said following passage of the bill. “For far too long, Highway 74 has been plagued by traffic accidents and tragic deaths along a beautiful yet dangerous stretch of road that serves as a lifeline to our community. Tristin’s Bill is not only about honoring the life of Tristin Bourgeois— it’s about making sure no other family has to suffer the loss of a loved one.”

Gonzalez and Assemblymember Greg Wallis R-Bermuda Dunes, introduced AB 1145, also known as Tristin’s Bill, earlier this yeara.

The goal of the legislation is to identify dangerous patterns and recommend long-term safeguards to prevent future tragedies and protect drivers, residents, and visitors alike. With today’s vote, AB 1145 now moves to the State Senate for further consideration.
