OPINION]Well, it never slows down in Trumpsville. What a week!

The “best friend of the LGBT community” has just rolled back protections for transgender prisons as it relates to housing. Under Obamacare the rule was “recommend housing by gender identity when appropriate.” Now under Trump, the policy states, “ biological sex as the initial determination” for where transgender inmates are housed. The line recommending housing by gender equality was struck out and highlighted.

Transprisoners have A higher rate of sexual assault than any other inmates, according to a study by the Dept of Justice.

On another note, Trump campaigned on draining the “swamp.” Oops, in the 16 months of his presidency, lobbying firms managed by former aides and others with ties to Trump or Ice President Pence, have collected at least $28 million in federal lobby fees. This includes the ever gutsy Michael Cohen, who collected at least $2.3 million!

That’s Trumpsville.

On the Stormy front, the President finally admitted he DID reimburse Cohen for the payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. $130,000 for Stormy and another $120,000 that has not been identified as to reason other than “expenses.” And let’s not leave the Prez out. His company earned $40.4 million from the Trump Hotel in Washington in 2017.

Trump is now back to attacking sanctuary cities. He lashed out on cities, especially in California. He brought to the White House close to a dozen California officials to bounce the state’s sanctuary law and during the meeting he went into a frenzy about Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. The Mayor went on local TV and radio and announced an ICE raid in time for people to go into hiding and be safe. I’m sure he also doesn’t like her for being a Lesbian. He has made it clear he does not like or appreciate the Justice Dept but he wants them to Schaaf. Beginning to sound a lot like Nixon’s enemies list.

Immigration might be the straw that finally breaks the elephant’s back. Centrist Republicans are pushing to resolve immigration issue as well as fix the “Dreamer” issue. The Freedom Caucus, made up of the conservative members of Congress, killed the farm bill because the Wall has not been funded or a more draconian immigration plan. Speaker Ryan seems unable to find a consensus and the President is threatening to close the government down unless the Wall is fully funded.

Former Secretary of State Tillerson dinged his former boss, telling graduates of Virginia Military Institute, “If our leaders seek to conceal the truth, or we as people become accepting of alternative realities that are no longer grounded in facts, then we as American citizens are on a pathway to relinquishing our freedom.”

That’s Trumpsville.

Locally, Cathedral City Council directed staff to reject a proposal by Wells Fargo Bank for municipal services and to go out with another Request for Proposals (RFP). The Council was upset about the millions of dollars in fines Wells has had in the past year, its record on lower income residents and the lack of a brick and mortar presence in the city. Then this week it was disclosed that employees of the bank altered business clients’ documents. Not the kind of institution to place taxpayer funds into.
