The Greater Palm Springs 17th Annual Summit promises economic forecast

PALM SPRINGS — Headlining this year’s 17th annual Greater Palm Springs Summit will be leading economist Manfred Keil, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at Claremont McKenna College, who will deliver the Annual Economic Report and Forecast on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Additionally, Cathedral City Economic Development Director Stone James and CSUSB Entrepreneurship Professor Mike Stull, Ph.D, and Ezekiel Bonillas, CSUSB adjunct professor, will be presenters.

The theme of this year’s virtual Summit, hosted by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) is Pursuit.

“We want to highlight the regional economic opportunities and strategic goals for sustainable, diversified growth in the Coachella Valley,” says CVEP CEO Joe Wallace. “This past year brought a level of business development collaboration unlike any we’ve seen before here in the Valley. This new collaboration sets up a model for moving our economy forward to achievable and sustainable diversification. Due to the pandemic, several organizations came together to facilitate economic collaboration”

The CVEP annual Economic Summit has always been a catalyst for bringing regional business and civic leaders together to learn how our regional economy is doing so business and civic leaders can make informed decisions for their business plans. The morning event from 9 AM to 11 AM will showcase the successful regional diversification strategies and goals to mobilize a long-term sustainable economy for the Coachella Valley.

Some of the speakers’ topics include:

Manfred Keil, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Economics at Claremont McKenna College and former chairman of the faculty at the college’s Robert Day School of Economics and Finance, presenting the 2021 Annual Economic Report and Forecast:

• Are we really experiencing a V-shaped recovery? (A V-shaped recovery involves a sharp rise back to a previous peak after a sharp decline in these metrics.)
• What local industries have bounced back most quickly?

Stone James, DPPD, Director of Economic Development, City of Cathedral City, on The Role of Leadership and Collaboration as a Catalyst for Regional Economic Development:

• For most Valley residents, is economic stability increasing or decreasing?
• What are the shared economic priorities of Valley leaders?

Mike Stull, Ph.D., Director and Professor, Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship, CSUSB, School of Entrepreneurship, CSUSB and Ezekiel Bonillas, Adjunct Professor, Entrepreneurship & Strategy, School of Entrepreneurship, CSUSB, Doctor of Management candidate, Case Western Reserve University, Fowler Center Fellow, Weatherhead School of Management, on the State of Entrepreneurship Report 2021:

• What are entrepreneurs’ biggest perceived challenges?
• Do entrepreneurs feel supported by the public sector?

This is the premier business event of the year, which will be virtual again this year due to the resurgent COVID outbreak. Traditionally this event draws more than 800 of the region’s business, civic, and education leaders. It’s an excellent and rare opportunity to hear from some of the area’s leaders, influencers, and decision-makers.
