RANCHO MIRAGE — Construction has started on a 50,000-square-foot birthing center that is scheduled to open in late 2020/early 2021 at Eisenhower Health on the main campus, the hospital announced.

The obstetrics unit will include 14 labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum (LDRP) rooms, an eight-bed newborn intensive care unit (NICU), two operating rooms, four ante-partum rooms, and seven postpartum rooms, will be housed in the Eisenhower Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion.

“This is an exciting time for all of us at Eisenhower Health. We are pleased to announce the addition of a birthing center to our hospital,” G. Aubrey Serfling, President and Chief Executive Officer of Eisenhower Health, said in a prepared statement to news media. “Eisenhower Health is committed to providing excellent care in a supportive and nurturing environment for expectant mothers and their babies in the Coachella Valley.”

Specific details about the unit’s services will be released closer to the unit’s opening.

“Developing a birthing center is a substantial undertaking and will require significant planning,” Serfling said. “In addition to construction, we have a number of policies and procedures to develop over the next two years, and of course, Eisenhower Health will staff the unit with highly skilled physicians and providers specializing in obstetrics and pediatrics.”
