Cat Burglar Nabbed in Rancho Mirage

RANCHO MIRAGE — A 47-year-old resident of Thousand Palms was arrested May 1 in connection with a cat burglary about 8:25 a.m. April 30 in the Escala gated community that occurred while the victims were asleep, Sgt. Chris Gelinas reported.

The suspect initially burglarized the victim’s vehicle and gained access to their garage by utilizing the garage door opener. The suspect stole items from the victim’s vehicle and inside the garage.

Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team deputies obtained evidence that the suspect committed the burglary.

Michael Zibell was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio for first-degree burglary and possession of stolen property with a bail enhancement of $500,000. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional details are available.

On Wednesday, May 1 at 7:11 p.m., Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team deputies located Zibell on Bob Hope Drive and Via Marta in the city of Rancho Mirage.
