Home Movie Day, a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking held annually at local venues worldwide, is coming to Palm Springs on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Home Movie Day provides the opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience of their community and discover how best to care for them. So, rummage through the closets and attics for your home movies and come on down. This free program will be from at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (drop-in anytime during these hours) in the Cornelia White Community Room at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library located at 100 S. Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs.
Home Movie Day is an annual celebration of homemade films and the communities that made them. Home movies are historical records of people and places. They show us how people really live, at different time periods and in different communities, from the perspective of the people that made them. Home Movie Day is a chance to come together as a community to appreciate the value of these moving image memories and to learn how best to care for them.
Experts will be on hand to inspect your films and make minor repairs. With your permission, we will show your treasures (about 5 mins.)! Learn how to care for your films and what to do when you transfer them to another format. You needn’t have film to enjoy HMD! Come relax, watch other people’s films, and win valuable and/or questionable prizes playing HOME MOVIE DAY BINGO! Your Palm Springs Home Movie Day team is ready to work with 8mm, Super 8, VHS, and DVD (again, about a 5 mins. limit per participant).
