Krispy Kreme Waiting Line Forms to the Right

RANCHO MIRAGE — Four days after the ever-popular Krispy Kreme opened here, a waiting line forms outside the front door and in the convenient drive-thru.

No one complains. Customers know what they came for and they aren’t leaving without the goods.

On Saturday afternoon, customers were hauling out original glazed and lemon-glazed doughnuts by the dozens —and by the boxes.

Private security stood vigil at the front door to help usher in those waiting in line.

“This is what you get when it’s the only Krispy Kreme store in the Coachella Valley,” one woman said laughing.

Another private security person shepherded the drive-thru that snaked around the Krispy Kreme store and out into the parking lot.

“It’s been like this since Tuesday,” he said.

Whether intended or by coincidence, the doughnut shop opened during the week leading up to Easter and Passover — and between the back-t0-back weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival  at the Empire Polo Club in Indio,

After 30 days, you won’t have to worry about lines at all. You will be able to have the clouds of sugar delivered to your home or workplace through Ubereats and Grubhub.

Just in case you’re counting, here’s a spoiler alert. An original glazed doughnut has 190 calories. One of them cost $1.49.

The Krispy Kreme store is located at 72787 Dinah Shore Drive west of Monterey Avenue in the Monterey Marketplace shopping center. You will see the signature sign west of Red Robin and within walking distance of the Regal Rancho Mirage 16 movie theaters.

An estimated 45 locals are employed at the doughnut shop. The majority are full time.

The doughnut shop was founded in July 13, 1937. Today there are 1,005 locations worldwide, according to Wikipedia.

Store hours are 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and open until 11 p.m. on weekends.
