“Rafael Oscal with the Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce reached out to the Cathedral City Chamber of Commerce with the idea earlier this year, and then they connected with me about doing a Special Use Permit for Downtown,” Hunt told Uken Report. “The City Council approved the event on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, which is set to feature folklorico performances, live entertainment and cultural cuisine/presentations representing Mexico, Central & South America.”

While this is managed and operated by a third-party, the city is a proud sponsor and has been assisting with marketing efforts leading up to the festival, Hunt said. Maya La Feria International De Cultura projects a strong local and regional audience and represents another local event dedicated to celebrating the culture and history of Latino countries/heritage.

“The City of Cathedral City is excited to welcome the inaugural Maya La Feria International De Cultura event to our Downtown,” Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb said in a statement. “This free festival is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant culture, heritage, and history of Mexico, Central and South America, and that’s important to our City Council as a proud majority Latino community.
