PALM DESERT —This week, the Palm Desert Library embarked on an exciting new chapter, closing for renovation as it transitions from the County to the City. While the building is being refreshed, there are multiple ways to engage with it.

A special ribbon-cutting at the Little Free Library at Joe Mann Park on Tuesday, May 7, will highlight these programs and events, with the new Bookmobile also on display.

The Palm Desert Little Free Libraries will be located at Joe Mann Park, Ironwood Park, University Dog Park, Palma Village Park, and Portola Community Center. They will be stocked with new books to borrow and offer other library activities. All items are free to the public, and no library card is required to participate.

The Palm Desert Bookmobile will visit various locations around Palm Desert, where residents can borrow books and learn more about the library, including how to sign up for a library card.

And introducing: One Book – One Palm Desert. Join us in reading “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean, which recounts how the Los Angeles Public Library overcame adversity after a fire devastated its building in 1986. The program culminates in an evening with the author at UCR – Palm Desert on Tuesday, June 18, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a book signing.
