Palm Springs Pride Hosts Special Attractions, Including the Pride Dome of Light

PALM SPRINGS — The Pride Dome of Light, a special light installation celebrating Pride, will encase downtown on North Palm Canyon Drive with East Andreas Road as the center point. The installation will be visible starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, through Saturday night, Nov. 5.

Greater Palm Springs Pride announced that Eisenhower Health will present the Pride Dome of Light.

The Pride Weekend installation will feature a massive grouping of powerful beams of light forming a dome of white light ascending from a base of colors to reflect the meaning of the rainbow colors — pink for sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit.

“Many people don’t know the colors of the original Pride Rainbow Flag go back to 1978 when the artist Gilbert Baker designed the first rainbow flag to symbolize Pride for the LGBT community,” said Ron deHarte, president and CEO of Greater Palm Springs Pride. “Baker saw the rainbow as a natural flag from the sky, so he adopted eight colors for the stripes, each with its own meaning,”

The unprecedented brightness is so powerful and concentrated that its light beam looks more like a large laser ray.

“The Dome of Light is a beautiful expression of the Pride celebration, with each color representing a portion of what makes up a whole person, living their most complete and full life,” Martin Massiello, President and Chief Executive Officer of Eisenhower Health, said in a statement. “Eisenhower Health is pleased to sponsor the Dome of Light and wishes the LGBTQ+ community and all of its allies who are participating in Greater Palm Springs Pride a happy and healthy celebration,”

“The light installation is a special feature at the Pride Festival that will help raise awareness of the meaning behind the rainbow flag,” deHarte said in a statement. “We are grateful to Eisenhower Health for sponsoring the installation and the Art of Pride showcase of LGBTQ artists at this year’s Pride celebration

Several installations will be featured downtown for Pride 2022. Art projection can be seen on the Kimpton Rowan north tower, the Hyatt Hotel, and the Forever Marilyn statue on Museum Way. LGBTQ artists will present their art at the Pride Festival Art of Pride presented by Eisenhower Health. Tyson Knight will show ‘Super Nurse’ and tell his journey to create this work during COVID to honor local nurses. Knight will be at the Eisenhower booth on Palm Canyon Drive and Arenas Road Sunday, Nov. 6th, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition, the Pride organization’s collection of custom-designed balloons will be displayed around the downtown park starting Friday, Nov. 4, through Sunday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m.
