New vision, new logo, new classrooms, and a total modernization of the entire campus. However, one thing that hasn’t changed is the same Indio Middle School “Tiger Pride.”

As we close out a great, and quite unique school year, we are excited for Indio Middle to continue excellent traditions and also provide new opportunities and programs for our students and families.

The 2019-2020 school year began with the roll out of a new school vision that focuses on the academic, social and emotional development of ALL students. This vision has served as the driving force for the opportunities provided to our students and the professional development focus of our staff. New to Indio Middle School this year was the implementation of our Restorative Practices and Intervention Center.

This center provides students with access to resources provided by a behavioral coach, academic specialist and a mental health therapist. These resources are specifically designed and targeted to meet the small group and individual needs of our students. Additionally, our staff has begun the process of deepening their knowledge base around school-based mindfulness and restorative practices. Students were also provided with new course offerings to encourage all of our students to find and grow their passion. Some of the courses added to an already extensive electives course offerings were: Art, Peer Mentorship, Video Production, STEM, Color Guard, Drama and more.

Our ROAR (Respect, Ownership, Act Safely, Responsibility) values continue to be at the center of our work as tied to our vision statement. Our MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) collaboratively works with our students and staff to provide positive incentives for students demonstrating these ROAR values.

Indio Middle School continues to be the only middle school in the Coachella Valley offering a medical pathway for our students that allows our students to participate in hospital tours, learn from practicing physicians and explore their future career options in the medical field. Additionally, our medical program continues to support our larger community by hosting and supporting quarterly blood drives (2,327 pints of blood have been collected since 2005 from these drives). Our AVID, Band and middle school sports programs continue to thrive and serve as venues to enrich our students academic, musical, and physical talents.

The 2020-2021 school year is bringing in new and excellent changes for our Indio Middle School students and community. Our school modernization, which includes a complete update of all classrooms and buildings, will be completed in August. We will be providing a new Master Schedule for our students with a unique and targeted focus on providing students with daily intervention or enrichment time to both close academic gaps and raise the academic bar. Our WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Peer Mentoring program will kick off with a select group of our 8th grade students serving as yearlong mentors to our incoming 6th grade students.

Additionally, new branding, logos and updated school uniform polos will support an exciting and revolutionary phase of Indio Middle School. As a nationally recognized “School to Watch,” Indio Middle is the school to watch. With an exceptional staff, energetic school spirit, committed families and talented and dedicated students, Indio Middle is poised for excellence and success.
