National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a way to thank and honor our nation’s Vietnam veterans

National Vietnam War Veterans Day observances will take place across the nation on March 29, including at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington.

On March 28, 2017, President Donald J. Trump signed into law The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017, establishing The National Vietnam War Veterans Day that is now celebrated each year on March 29.

The recognition is extended to men and women who served on active duty in the U.S. armed forces from Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, whether in peacetime or war. Nine million Americans — about 6.4 million of them living today — served during that period.

As of March 2019, 58,320 U.S. service members’ names were inscribed on The Wall. The memorial is located on the National Mall, near the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the World War II Memorial.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a way to thank and honor our nation’s Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. There are 5 objectives with Vietnam Commemoration and the other four are:

  • Highlight the service of our Armed Forces and support organizations during the war
  • Pay tribute to wartime contributions at home by American citizens
  • Highlight technology, science and medical advances made during the war
  • Recognize contributions by our Allies.

Presidential Proclamation President Trump signed regarding the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 reads as follows: “To ensure the sacrifices of the 9 million heroes who served during this difficult chapter of our country’s history are remembered for generations to come, I signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017, designating March 29 of each year as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Throughout this Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, and every March 29 thereafter, we will honor all those who answered our Nation’s call to duty.”

To all who have served, we honor you.
