INDIAN WELLS – Veterans, the nation’s heroes, will receive a special nod during the 2019 BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

A “Salute to Heroes” on Friday, March 8 is designed to recognize veterans, military personnel, police, and fire personnel throughout the evening session.

The special salute will be held in Stadium 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the BNP Parabis Open, which runs March 4 through March 17.

That same day, Rock 4 Vets, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives and well-being of Veterans, at-risk youth and other groups through music instruction, education and mentoring will perform. The live performance takes place on the Village Stage from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Members of Rock for Vets have dedicated themselves to making life better for disabled veterans. To date, Rock for Vets has helped veterans who suffer from PTSD, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries. They’ve also worked with blind veterans in rehab who are learning to play a musical instrument.

Their group, which is based in Long Beach, is part of a larger organization called The Rock Club: Music is the Remedy.

Rock 4 Vets’ entertainment supports disabled veterans and veterans suffering from PTSD.

The “Salute to Heroes” has been in the works for months. In recognition of Veterans Day, on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018 veterans and active military could pick up two complimentary tickets to Salute to Heroes evening matches for Friday, March 8, 2019 at the BNP Paribas Open.  Veterans and active military also received a complimentary BNP Paribas Open gift while supplies last.

The BNP Paribas Open recognizes the critical role veterans play in Riverside County, which is home to more than 130,000 veterans.

Riverside County has the third highest veteran population in the state and is the host of two major military installations; various National Guard facilities and installations; and state and federal reserve facilities and installations.
