Donors Give 15,724 Pints of Blood to LifeStream

LA QUINTA —In 2018, Coachella Valley donors donated 15,724 pints of blood to LifeStream, the exclusive provider of blood products and services to all Coachella Valley hospitals.

LifeStream estimates that for those 15,000-plus donations, more than 30,000 patients and their loved ones were personally touched by the generosity of these Coachella Valley blood donors. It’s important to note that different components of a single blood donation can be used by separate patients.

Since LifeStream is the exclusive blood provider to all area hospitals, it’s the Coachella Valley’s own families, friends, neighbors and colleagues who count on the generosity of local donors.

That spirit of giving is being celebrated Sunday, April 7 at the Riverside Convention Center as LifeStream hosts its 36th Annual Gift of Life Tribute.

This year’s event theme, “Your greatness is not what you have, but in what you give” describes the commitment of blood donors to LifeStream and the Coachella Valley.

“The excitement is building as we approach our centerpiece annual event,” Dr, Rick Axelrod, LifeStream’s president, CEO and medical director, said in a prepared statement. “It’s a privilege for us to host our region’s most dedicated blood donors, including a number of ‘lifesavers’ from the Coachella Valley.”

The Gift of Life Tribute luncheon and awards ceremony honors those who have donated 10 gallons of blood or more in their lifetimes. There are more than 1,000 attendees expected including dozens of 50+ gallon blood donors and 20, 100-gallon donors.

Including the Coachella Valley, LifeStream provides blood products and services to more than 80 hospitals and medical facilities in San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Imperial counties.

LifeStream continuously needs blood donors and donations to ensure an adequate blood supply at all times throughout its Southern California services areas. All blood types and donation types are needed; every donation can assist multiple patients.

Walk-ins are welcome seven days days per week at LifeStream’s La Quinta Donor Center, 79-215 Corporate Centre Drive, or at local mobile drives.
