Mossy, slippery and steep sides of the canal hindered golden retriever from climbing out

A golden retriever was rescued after getting stuck in a canal on Wednesday in the North Shore area of Riverside County.

The 6-year-old golden retriever was liberated after being stuck in a section of the American Canal on Nov. 3, according to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.

The incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the North Shore area. Both CAL Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department assisted with a dog stuck in a section of the American Canal.

As you might imagine, the sides of these canals are mossy, slippery and steep. Officers have responded to calls from time to time about pets stuck in the canals throughout Riverside County. Officers even assisted with a deer rescue once in the Coachella Valley.

“We must send a big thank you to a crew from Riverside County Fire Department Station No. 41 for the major help yesterday,” said John Welsh of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. “Firefighters used ropes to safely lasso the dog, a handsome, male 6-year-old Golden retriever.”

Officer Eric Espejo transported the pooch to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms where officers hope the rightful owner shows up to retrieve their pet. If not, at least one firefighter expressed interest in adopting him.
