PALM DESERT — With the help of an anonymous donation, Resources for Uncovering Wonder, a nonprofit organization based in Palm Desert has relaunched its programming with a focus on helping participants build resilience and mental well-being.

“In these difficult times, there has never been a more important focus for our organization than to help people find their true creative purpose,” Diane Annie Mathias, MA, founder and CEO of Resources for Uncovering Wonder, said in a news release. “As we move into the ‘what’s next’ with the pandemic, I am aware that there is so much needed. We are faced with learning new ways of living, both in our outer lives and our inner lives.  Maintaining good mental health utilizing the creative process is a priority at this time.”

The nonprofit organization, first established in 2010, is dedicated to utilizing creative processes of art, music, writing and the meditative practice of labyrinth walking. These practices are taught and used to promote education, health, well being and empowerment.  A generous donation from an anonymous donor led to the relaunch of programming after a short hiatus. Activities include expressive writing, drumming and art workshops.  Currently all classes are online.

“Research shows that when lives are touched with music, art or writing, we can be changed,” Mathias said. “The creative arts allow us to grow out of our old places and learn to take new steps. Our interactive workshops and presentations encourage healthy cognitive processing, positive group interactive skills, stress reduction and utilizing the creative processes in new and positive ways. So many can benefit from uncovering this wonder in their lives.”

Mathias has created and taught numerous classes for a variety of people, including cancer survivors, the bereaved, seniors and youth. She has taught in hospitals and healing centers as well as conducting community-focused training. She teaches to allow the art, writing and playing of music to bring forth transformation and healing.
